The Idea of Freedom

Developing the idea of freedom has been interesting. The learning that becoming one's own would simultaneously begin the freedom of self wasn't expected. A learning that thinking creates ideas to become more.              

I learned too, that for whatever reason a person isn’t free, and I don’t mean incarceration, but when a person's failures limit their development of themselves, then all the freedoms of society, like freedom of speech, have little importance. Freedom is only an idea.           

Conversely then, freedom begins as a person chooses to become their own. And chooses in their effort, the value, use, and seeking of truth as the basis of their thinking.                  

We are each unique. What is true for me, may or may not be true for you. Becoming one’s own then is of the self. The individual thinking needed to begin learning.   

Learning begins subconsciously, a natural process, an awareness of this is me. Conscious learning begins as choice. An effort of self to choose what I want to think, learn and become.                 

An important freedom in this idea to become is law. Law has existed since time. Do this. Don’t do that. But the idea of law and freedom, that law can create freedom, began at Mt Sinai.  

Learning and thinking, an interacting with ideas creates a development of self. But the learning and thinking of an interacting with law that limits behavior without limiting freedom and the development of freedom, creates becoming more.                              

My learning began with thinking and questioning. Like when asking the Rabbi about law, and then thinking of the Ten Commandments. That a person can choose to live within the limits of not committing murder, adultery, stealing, lying, and coveting, or they don’t. One road leads to freedom, of becoming one's own and the freedom of self, and the other to bondage.
